The Tamil language crime-thriller film ‘Bakasuran’ is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on March 24, 2023. Directed by Mohan G. Kshatriyan, the movie stars Selvaraghavan and Natarajan Subramaniam in lead roles, with Mansoor Ali Khan, Radha Ravi, and Saravana Subbiah in supporting roles. The film was released in theatres on February 17, 2023, and deals with the issue of cyber harassment and the importance of parents being aware of their children’s problems.

However, ‘Bakasuran’ has faced criticism on social media for being a regressive film. Even filmmaker Anurag Kashyap faced backlash for praising the movie on social media. In a tweet, Kashyap congratulated his friend Natarajan Subramaniam and director Selvaraghavan, saying he had heard good word of mouth for the movie. Subramaniam thanked Kashyap for his message.

However, several social media users criticized Kashyap for promoting a movie with a “completely male chauvinistic” storyline. Others accused Natarajan Subramaniam of being a “sanghi” and called the movie “regressive.”

In an interview, ‘Bakasuran’s’ lead actor Selvaraghavan spoke about the difficulties of acting. He noted that his brother Dhanush had told him that he would understand the challenges of being in front of the camera.

Selvaraghavan is an Indian filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter who is primarily known for his work in Tamil cinema. He began his directorial career with the film ‘Thulluvadho Ilamai’ in 2002, which was credited to his father for business reasons. He then directed a series of romantic dramas, including ‘Kadhal Kondein’ (2003) and ‘7G Rainbow Colony’ (2004), both of which starred his brother Dhanush K. Raja. Later, he moved on to coming-of-age films, such as ‘Pudhupettai’ (2006) and ‘Mayakkam Enna’ (2011), both of which also starred Dhanush.
