Taking a serious note of the incident of recent under-construction tunnel collapse in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, a committee has been formed to investigate the causes. Centre has framed a panel of three experts to look into the reasons of the sudden collapse.
Panel has initiated the process of investigation and detailed report of the incident has to be submitted by the committee within ten days.
An official said that State-owned National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started with process to handle such emergency situation and also taking all possible steps to avoid such incidents in future. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) office order, Professor JT Sahu of IIT Delhi will be the chairman of the committee.
According to the official statement, the stretch between Digdole and Khooni Nallah of Ramban Banihal section is subjected to landslides and shooting stones frequently.
“Considering the strategic importance of maintaining all- weather connectivity to Srinagar and after assessing the challenges in ensuring stability of hill slopes on existing alignment, tunnels, viaducts are proposed under 3 packages in Ramban-Banihal section”, it said.
Police informed on Saturday that all ten bodies of workers buried under the debris have been retrieved.
